A short report from the seminar "visual artists | diverse conditions'' on May 24 by Sara Edström

On May 24th The Artists’ Association of Sweden (Konstnärernas Riksorganisation) co-hosted the seminar Visual Artists / Diverse Conditions together with the artist association of Germany, IGBK , the International Association of Art Europe and the international mobility network On The Move.

It was a hybrid event with participants in Berlin and Stockholm simultaneously. We would like to thank all of you that participated, and from The Artists’ Association of Sweden we especially want to say thanks to the panelists and speakers in Stockholm:

-Katarina Renman Claesson, the legal counsel for the Artists' Association of Sweden and on the board of the Swedish UNESCO Council's Committee on Democracy's Voice

-Ola Öhlin, who has initiated the project Konsten att Delta (The art of participation)

-Ermias Ekube, an artist who is now based in Västervik, and a former participant of that project

-Linda Marie Karlsson, vice chair of Konstnärernas Riksorganisation

-Angelica Olsson, the board of Konstnärernas Riksorganisation

-Eva Månsson, head of office at Konstnärernas Riksorganisation

-Geska and Robert Brecevic, head of the technique of the seminar.

The project "visual artists | diverse conditions'' focuses on the framework conditions for artistic work in Europe from the perspective of diversity. It consists of a series of workshops and seminars in 2023 and 2024

What impact do characteristics such as age, gender, origin/language and geographical location (or place of residence) have on the work of visual artists in addition to country-specific cultural policy, art policy and socio-political conditions? To what extent is the presence or absence of diversity structures in institutions, for example, noticeable in the work of artists? Are artists' associations sufficiently diverse with regard to the changing population structure?

Sara Edström,
Ordförande Konstnärernas Riksorganisation
